The Produce Lead provides daily direction for produce department operations, ensuring quality, freshness, food safety, and presentation standards are consistently met. This role plans, guides, and empowers team members in the execution of day-to-day tasks while maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and customer-ready department. The Produce Lead sets the standard for exceptional customer service by modeling Meijer values, supporting team engagement, and driving department performance. Through strong collaboration and influence, this role helps achieve department goals and contributes to a winning, results-focused store culture.


What you'll be doing:

  • Engages and leads team members to deliver an exceptional shopping experience by ensuring a fresh, full, and well‑merchandised Produce department that meets Meijer standards.
  • Communicates effectively with team members and assigns daily work tasks to support department priorities, workflow, and customer demand.
  • Mentors and coaches team members to exceed customer service, quality, and sales goals while maintaining department conditions, food safety compliance, and completion of required training.
  • Supports the training of new team members and cross‑training of high‑potential talent by providing peer coaching on Produce processes, standards, and best practices to improve productivity and consistency.
  • Partners with department and store leadership on schedule writing to support team member engagement, peak business needs, customer service, and store sales and profitability.
  • Ensures product freshness and quality by closely monitoring rotation, dating, culling, and shrink control practices.
  • Guides the team in compliance with food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and safe work practices, demonstrating Meijer's 200% accountability mindset.
  • Leads and supports execution of ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product presentation to ensure accurate inventory levels and strong visual merchandising.
  • Actively creates an inclusive, respectful work environment that supports Meijer's culture and values, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Operates a cash register and performs cash handling when needed to support business needs.
  • Operates powered equipment, where applicable, in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Participates in period‑end inventories and other department audits, as required, to support inventory accuracy and performance goals.
  • May be required to act in a Lead capacity in other departments throughout the store based on business needs.
