Currently, Meijer is looking for a Product Development Manager.  The individual selected for this position will be responsible for the development of merchandise assortments including color, fabric, silhouette and pattern direction; insures product quality and integrity, and maintains consistency to target customer.   
  
Key responsibilities include: 
  • Research and identify seasonal trends including silhouettes, colors, fabrics, patterns and details. Create a focused assortment that reflects the brand identity and interprets trend for the target customer. Prepare and present concepts during seasonal strategy meetings
  • Work with Merchandising and Sourcing Teams on seasonal assortment planning in order to understand item, classification, IMU needs for development to ensure depth of assortment, flow and proper merchandising of line. Analyze weekly sales reports to influence future development decisions
  • Select and present seasonal color palettes by brand. Work with Color Analyst to review and resolve any deviation to color standards. Work with CAD designer to develop artwork for the season. Review and approve strike-offs, handlooms for layout and execution. Resolve any issues that do not meet standards. Partner with Sourcing to understand and manage impact to production timeline
    Review seasonal fabric needs with Fabric Manager. Work closely with Fabric Manager on development of new fabrics and fabric selections for sampling
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance Technicians to ensure complete technical design packages are presented for sourcing. Responsible for completion, execution, accuracy and communication of garment sketch, details and bill of materials. Attend fit meetings with cross-functional teams to ensure the execution of fit and design vision. Communicate to overseas team any styling/detail changes affecting price or bill of materials
    Approve prototype samples for style details and construction. Initiate testing of new styles/concepts and/or changes to core item programs
  • Coordinate and manage key activities in the development process to ensure requirements are met. Communicate and follow up with overseas team on development status and sampling/production deadlines
  • Develop Asst. Product Development Manager by managing, coaching, providing feedback, instilling teamwork, conducting performance reviews and promoting training/development

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising or related field
  • 3+ years apparel product development experience
  • Possess creativity and passion for product. Understanding of industry trends and how to interpret for target customer. Knowledge of fabrics, trims, construction details and finishing techniques. General understanding of garment construction and manufacturing process
  • Expertise in developing product line from concept to creation. Understanding of assortment planning and key item development. Ability to tell compelling stories through product, merchandising and outfitting
  • Knowledge of fabric and component level costs and ability to develop into IMU structure
  • Ability to manage multiple calendars and work against deadlines. Ensure all parties are held accountable for maintaining T&A
    Work cross functionally and communicate daily with Buyers, CAD Designers, Color Analysts, QA Technicians and Overseas Offices
  • Ability to adapt to existing and changing processes
    Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills
    Strong computer skills (Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft office applications and Outlook) Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and PLM strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, including internationally
